Enemies of the chance missed by the Kremlin in the spring of 2014

– “Russian society hostility to the Revolution of dignity on Maidan. “War party” took over, and Vladimir Putin has authorized the operation to Annex Crimea, which was provided by units of the special operations Forces of the GRU of the General staff of the Russian Federation.
In terms of a leadership vacuum that arose after the flight of President Viktor Yanukovych in late February — early March 2014, the Russian side could occupy at least half of Ukraine. Forces for it was enough. Recall that on 11 March 2014 the then Minister of defense Igor Tenyuh appreciated the number of the Russian grouping at the borders of Ukraine 220 thousand troops and 1800 tanks. Ukraine at that time was ready to stand against this avalanche only 6 thousand more or less trained soldiers of the army. However, large-scale invasion never took place, and Putin was limited to only Crimea.
It became clear that the “party of war” has not calculated all the consequences of invading Ukraine, so the Russian leader acted as if they tried to sit on two chairs. He did not recognize the results of “referendums” in the so-called DPR and LPR, not sent troops to Donbass to help entrenched in Slavyansk terrorists Igor Girkin (strelkov). He recognized the legitimacy of the election of Petro Poroshenko, President of Ukraine (although acting President Oleksandr Turchynov did not want even to talk); with his participation signed both versions of the Minsk agreements providing for a ceasefire and a truce.
At the same time the Russian artillery fired with impunity the Ukrainian crew, seeking to block the border, through which the Donbass endless stream supplied weapons and mercenaries went. Finally, in August 2014 regular parts of the Russian army crossed the border of Ukraine (this also could not happen without order of the Supreme commander) and ensured the rout of the Ukrainian grouping near Ilovaysk. It saved the DPR and the LPR from disaster, but mainly it saved the reputation of Vladimir Putin, who could not forgive the destruction of the “militia”. At the same time, the previously announced “Novorossia” in the 8 regions of Ukraine did not take place.
Now under the weight of sanctions and the fallen oil prices, Vladimir Putin is looking for an exit from the Ukrainian trap, preferably without losing face. The energy of the “party of war” moved to Syria. There the Russian leader is trying to turn the world’s attention, to distract him from the “Ukrainian question”.
What is the policy of the new state, is evident from the statements of the same Kalashnikov: “We will have to nominate a government of national salvation. Our job is not Syria. We are in the business of Russia, Novorossiya and Transnistria”.
